As our Associate Director, Scott Koop, reached one year of employment at Square One World Media, we asked him for a summary of his time at the ministry…
As I reflect on my first year as Associate Director at Square One World Media, I am grateful and also humbled at the way God can take a flawed individual like me and use me to move the Kingdom of God forward. In the process, I find that my life is rich and full and I am given much to not only praise God for but to also use to be a blessing to the people He has placed in front of me.
My first 12 months here have made for a very full year. As part of my mandate when I was hired, one of my goals was to get into many more churches to speak and connect. We had struggled to make sufficient connections with our supporting churches and we wanted to see that change. From August 1st of 2023 until July 31st of 2024, I’ve had the privilege of speaking at 21 different churches and conference events. This is a purposeful part of our plan to keep our supporting churches and individuals informed of the work that Square One is doing.
Another part of what I am here to do is to be a pastor to the staff of Square One. I have been able to connect very intentionally with those who are employed here in some tangible ways. Ministry is often very emotionally exhausting work and those who are not directly involved in vocational ministry are usually unaware of the mental toll that it can take. As a former pastor, I not only know this well, but I am also able to be a sounding board for those who need to talk through all the demands ministry places on them.
Certainly, a highlight for me has been the creation of a new English program, The Weekly Well. It’s a three to five minute weekly devotional series designed to encourage people to dive into the Scripture by giving them a brief introduction to a specific passage and then highlighting a lesson or truth that we can glean from it. This has been a way for us to give back to our many donors and supporters, many of whom have faithfully supported us for decades. I am grateful to be able to use my gifts as a pastor to host this program and share the Gospel in a very digestible way with the Square One community and our audience at large. Our prayer is that those who tune in each week will take what they hear and explore those passages further, diving in deeper into what God by His Holy Spirit wants to teach them through His Word.
Lastly, I’d like to thank the staff here for opening themselves up to me being a part of the ministry that is Square One. I have been welcomed and accepted by the entire staff and I am grateful for the love and care that I have received. May God be praised!
